Most fantasy players consider the snake draft the best part of the game, so Underdog includes snake drafts in daily contests, Battle Royale events, and season-long Best Ball tournaments.

How does Underdog Fantasy Sports work?
Underdog Fantasy is a daily and seasonal fantasy sports service. Participants can enter daily and seasonal drafts, Pick’em contests, and tournaments. Live picks are available for the Pick’em contests.
Daily drafts
Participants who enter a daily draft select a team of players who accumulate points throughout the contest. Drafts are for shorter periods, usually one day or one week. Prizes are awarded to the top performers in the draft.
Underdog Fantasy uses snake drafts, so the contestant who selects last in the first round selects first in the second round.
Best Ball drafts allow contestants to pick a large roster of players that runs on auto-pilot throughout the year. In Best Ball contests, contestants do not make free-agent additions or trades. Instead, Underdog Fantasy fills out the contestant’s best lineup each week according to the starting lineup rules of the contest. This allows contestants to enter many contests without the hassle of daily and weekly lineup changes.
Pick’em contests
The Pick’em link takes players to a big list of betting markets, including MLB, CS:GO, and Dota 2. Each June after the NBA and NHL seasons end, most picks are MLB markets. The object of this game is to decide whether a player’s or team’s statistics or fantasy points will be higher or lower than the line set. It’s much like an over/under in sports betting.
Participants have the option to make picks based on a traditional fantasy scoring system or with raw stats. On the left side of the screen, they can scroll through Pick’em events in 15+ sports. When we signed up, 16 sports were listed, though the NBA and NHL links could not be selected because those leagues had just finished their seasons. Here is the big list of sports.
- NBA
- NHL
- MLB
- WNBA
- Tennis
- NFLSZN
- Soccer
- CWS
- KBO
- Esports
- PGA
- Golf
- Racing
- MMA
- USFL
- Basketball
The golf options were inactive while PGA had live pick’em markets, so it’s hard to say whether the “Golf” section includes LIV Golf, the LPGA, or other tours. The “Basketball” category is for international basketball, so you can make picks based on European pro basketball leagues. The game at the time we looked was Barcelona versus Real Madrid.
Then, NFLSZN stands for NFL Season, and it lets people pick whether they think an individual NFL player’s stat will be higher or lower than the projections. For instance, the top three players in this section right now are Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Jalen Hurts. Participants can make picks on four different stats for each player: Seasonal Passing TDs, Seasonal Rushing TDs, Seasonal Passing Yards, and Seasonable Rushing Yards.
We counted 26 quarterbacks, 38 running backs, 66 wide receivers, and 13 tight ends. For those who want a reference on the prominence or obscurity of the players involved, the tight end list ranges from Travis Kelce to David Njoku. For what it’s worth, Sam LaPorta was the only rookie tight end we saw listed, so the TE list should grow once training camp starts.
Live fantasy picks
The live fantasy picks page lists five sports: MLB, PGA, NFL, NHL, and NBA. Currently, four of the five are inactive, so participants can only make live picks on MLB games at the moment. This section has links for “Best Ball” contests and “Pick’em” contests, though neither was active at the time we viewed them.
The “Rankings” section includes default rankings for the MLB, PGA, NFL, NHL, and NBA, but also has a link for the NFL 2023 Season. Here, you can create your own rankings by working from the default lists. MLB has rankings for pitchers, infielders, and outfielders. The NFL has rankings for quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends. The other sports don’t have lists currently.
Best Ball tournaments
Underdog Fantasy hosts tournaments with hundreds, thousands, and even hundreds of thousands of entrants. The prize pools for tournament events range from $5,000 to $15 million.
For instance, the Best Ball Mania IV tournament for the NFL 2023 Season has 677,00 entrants and a prize pool of $15 million. The entry fee is $25 and the first-place prize is $3 million. The Dalmatian 2 event also focuses on the NFL 2023 season, but it has a $101 entry fee, 3,264 entrants, and $300,000 in prizes. It has a max of three entries apiece and a first-place prize of $30,000.
If you prefer baseball, you can enter The Cycle event, a 12-person draft with $5000 in prizes and $1000 for first place. This event has a $9 entry fee, covers an 11-game schedule, and has 624 entrants. Participants can enter tournaments that cover a wide range of time frames. We found a 15-game tournament, several that involved the second half of the MLB season, and two that involve the 2023 NFL Season.

Underdog Fantasy provides customers with several responsible gaming tools: deposit restrictions, entry fee restrictions, contest entry restrictions, and self-exclusion. Below is a description of each tool.
- Deposit restrictions: To engage in responsible gaming, participants can self-impose deposit restrictions. The deposit restrictions include a “Monthly Alert Amount” and “Monthly Deposit Amount.” This has 15 settings, which range between $500 and $7,500 and include steps up every $500 increment. These last for one month.
- Entry fee restrictions: This setting focuses on how much you can spend on a single-entry fee. In this case, the restriction lasts for 90 days. The “Weekly Alert Amount” and “Weekly Limit Amount” have five options: $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100.
- Contest entry restrictions: Finally, customers can place restrictions on how many contests they can enter per week. Once again, this restriction lasts for 90 days. Underdog Fantasy overview
Underdog Fantasy is a nice twist on daily and seasonal fantasy sports. Players enter daily drafts or seasonal tournaments for a chance at prizes. If they prefer, they can enter Pick’em contests on star players’ raw game stats. Be sure to take advantage of Underdog’s 50% deposit match bonus of up to $1,000 by using our exclusive Underdog promo code TXBONUS.
Contestants can use major credit cards or PayPal to fund accounts and are paid small prizes for daily drafts or Pick’em contests and huge prizes for tournaments.
Daily drafts provide fantasy owners with the best part of any fantasy season—a snake draft. Pick’em contests are a bit controversial because you’re picking against an over/under number, but contestants can avoid lineup building if they consider that a hassle. Tournaments provide fantasy enthusiasts with the jackpot prizes you’d expect from DraftKings or FanDuel.
Underdog Fantasy combines traditional fantasy scoring with several novel ideas. It gives those who love fantasy sports new ways to enjoy their pastime while hosting events that let them collect nice prizes when their fantasy sports knowledge is greater.

We prefer DraftKings’ and FanDuel’s daily fantasy sports contests to Underdog’s Pick’em format. Often, it’s more appealing to play DFS against other sports fanatics than try to beat an oddsmaker, who uses expert knowledge to set the projections in Pick’em contests.
That said, Underdog Fantasy has a lot of twists you won’t find at DraftKings or FanDuel. We like the snake draft rules instead of salary cap formats. The Best Ball contests let you track results without lineup hassles, while the Battle Royale contests combine a fun draft, a small fee, and big jackpot prizes.
