Texans have claimed the first two million-dollar promotions at Choctaw Casino & Resort this summer.
One North Texas man became a millionaire last week thanks to the 3 Months 3 Millionaires contest at Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant — the second Texan to win in two tries this year, after Lone Star State residents took all three million-dollar prizes in last year’s edition of the contest.
Since Texas casinos remain illegal, the best options for casino gaming lie in Texas’s bordering states and through online social and sweepstakes casinos.
Choctaw doles out $1M a month for the summer
According to a release from Choctaw at the outset of the contest in May, this year’s version of the 3 Months 3 Millionaires promotion bestowed a $1,000,000 prize on two rewards club members earlier in the summer, with a third
Jeff Penz, senior director of gaming & hospitality and Choctaw Casino & Resort – Durant, said in the press release,
“You can’t overstate the impact of making someone a millionaire, and Choctaw Casino & Resort – Durant was able to do that for three of our rewards club members last summer. It was an extraordinary experience, and we couldn’t miss the opportunity to offer our guests another chance at life-changing winnings! We are always looking to elevate the experiences we provide our guests and giving back to our incredibly loyal players is a key part of that commitment.”
Contestants are required to be present to win, and Carl Stone, hailing from Trenton, Texas, was in the room where it happened this past Sunday morning at 1 a.m.
Thomas O’Sullivan, the casino’s director of marketing, told Fox 4 in Dallas,
“Making someone a millionaire is a once-in-a-lifetime feeling. To see the look on their face when they win a million dollars, and you get to tell them that their life has changed forever, is like nothing you’ve ever felt before.”
Choctaw expanding its rewards program across all properties
According to Choctaw’s release, its rewards club was updated in 2023 “when Choctaw became the first casino brand in the region to bring customers an all-encompassing rewards program, across all Choctaw Casinos, where guests can earn points on both gaming and select resort spending like dining, shopping and more.”
That includes Choctaw Landing, the $238 million Hochatown casino two hours east of its flagship Durant casino, which opened this spring in the southeast corner of the state. The new location is just 35 miles from the Texas border and relatively close to some major North Texas and East Texas population centers.
It’s 90 miles from Texarkana, the closest Texas metro area, a little more than 150 miles from Tyler, and also a little more than 150 miles from the edge of the vast Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
