Four Texans were named millionaires in Powerball drawing

Lottery officials declared one winner in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing that had a jackpot of $1.08 billion, the third-highest winning prize in the game’s history. The winning ticket was sold in California.

The winning numbers for Wednesday night’s drawing were 7, 10, 11, 13, 24, and the Powerball was 24. The Power Play was 2X.

Four Texas lottery players who bought tickets in Forney, Houston, Pleasanton and San Marcos matched five numbers and walked away with $1 million prizes. Powerball officials announced 36 $1 million winning tickets were sold in 16 states.

With Wednesday night’s jackpot hit, the top prize for the game will shrink to $20 million. Before last night’s win, the last Powerball jackpot winner occurred April 19, when a ticket holder walked away with $253 million.

Wednesday’s drawing was the third time a Powerball jackpot pushed past $1 billion. Along with November’s record $2.04 billion jackpot, also won in California, the Powerball top prize reached $1.586 billion in January 2016.

Wednesday’s jackpot was the sixth-highest in US lottery history. The Mega Millions jackpot has topped $1 billion four times: October 2018, January 2021, July 2022 and January 2023.

The Mega Millions’ top prize has also surged in recent weeks. The game’s top prize sits at an estimated $720 million, the seventh largest in that game’s history and 11th overall in US lottery history. The next drawing for that game is Friday night.
