Due to a health issue, the much-anticipated showdown between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, originally scheduled for July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, has been postponed to November.
But boxing fans won’t have to wait that long to see the two face off.
The boxers, who have traded barbs for months, will face off at a press conference on Sunday, Aug. 18, at Fanatics Fest NYC.
Of course, the real action will take place in Texas at their rescheduled exhibition match on Nov. 15.
Tyson cites ulcer issues for canceling match
The only drawback to their showdown at AT&T Stadium in November is that Texas sports betting remains prohibited. It’s expected to be a contentious issue when Texas lawmakers meet at the Capitol in Austin next year.
Although Texans can’t bet real money legally on the fight, Texas social sportsbooks like Fliff Texas could offer odds as the event draws nearer.
Tyson, 58, the former heavyweight champion, pulled out of the match with Paul in late May, citing a problem with an ulcer. He told Netflix at the time:
“I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flare-up, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover. My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s, and I will be back to my full training schedule soon.
Paul responded as expected.
“I fully support postponing the event so Mike Tyson has no excuses come fight night. My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best, but let there be no mistake – when he steps into the ring with me, I will be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish.”
Tyson and Paul will square off in New York this month
The two will next meet at a press conference during the Fanatics Fest in New York this month. The event is sponsored by Most Valuable Promotions, Netflix, and Fanatics Events, with Ryan Clark serving as the host.
Netflix has secured exclusive streaming rights for both the press conference and the rescheduled fight.
Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, said fans should see an epic fight in November.
“We appreciate the outstanding dedication, collaboration, and flexibility of our partners at Netflix and AT&T Stadium. Paul vs. Tyson is the most cross-generational sporting event in history, and we are committed to providing fans worldwide with this unforgettable night of boxing, live globally on Netflix. We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday, Nov. 15, for a showdown that will be talked about for generations to come.”
